As the ambassadors of the Village, our Chamber of Commerce has an awesome responsibility and tremendous opportunity to take our sleepy little town and supercharge it. We do not necessarily have to grow to "city" proportions (5000 residents) but we can improve the quality of life for the 3000 or so that live here and more importantly attract the dollars of those who do not. Why not create an ice cream shop (Ben & Jerry's, or Cold Stone Creamery type) with a baked goods store (Maybe a Paneras) in the now defunct "legends", lets put attractive shops downtown and rid ourselves of the blighted areas, let's attract business into out industrial sector and ask our Board of Public Affairs to be ready and willing to make the improvements needed, or work with developers to make the necessary improvements. We as a chamber have the power in numbers and the ideas behind the possibilities. We are a developer away from real opportunity. We can be recession proof with diversity and given the current state of the village there is no where to go but up. Let's support ourselves and each other by selling Lodi, then buying Lodi. Businesses that come in will buy goods and services from Lodi as long as we can provide them, otherwise, as we have all seen, people will travel 25 minutes for the perception of being able to buy a "better" product only because of more choices, not because anything was actually any better. An example, Lodi doesn't patronize the outlet mall as much as non-Lodians do. Let's all do our part to toot the horn, brag it up and make it happen, we will leave a legacy to our children and their children that we can be proud of. We all want the next generation to be at least if not more successful than we were. That hasn't happened in Lodi for about 1.5 generations, we can change that.
