I am about to list a postcard of the Taylor Inn on Ebay. I see them a lot but this one is a little different than some. It was sent by someone called Nina to Mrs Fred Smith in Doylestown, Ohio.

Just my 2 cents, but I'm thinking this is absolutely easily attainable, using resources that are probably all ready in place.

Maybe I'm seeing it differently?

What your talking about will all come down to 1 thing, a website that is capable of interaction.

And there is some very nice software out there that does it for....... free.

Wifi Cafe? Why not choose one of the cafe's already in town, cost will be at a minimum?

Provide a computer at the Town Hall for those not equiped.

A Website that lets its members, businesses, citizens provide input to the website about their business and local events. With such additions as classifieds, picture galleries, event calendar, etc, it will easily supplement the areas newspapers.

Does anyone have any memories or information on the old "Taylor Inn". My Great Great Grandfather was the manager back in 1905 and from some records it was a very nice hotel. Thanks in advance.

The Lodi of today is not the Lodi I see in my childhood memories. Maybe its the disillusionment of being a child, but I remeber Lodi being more viberant and alive. A place where familes enjoyed a walk through town, there was a sense of community and people actually had pride in our town. There weren't empty bulidings all over town or rundown housing. It seems that we, as a town, have sat by and done nothing as the "outside" world has left us all behind, we became idol and complacent with the state of our town, and instead of impracing change, we as a town have stubberly put our foot down, and look where that has gotton us. A town where no one seems to care, an steady increase of drugs among the younger populations, inclining poverty rate, and a town where peple have for the most part given up hope. As I look around town it saddens me for a number a reasons, but mostly because I have come to reliaze that my children may never know the lodi I remember as a child, and that know matter how much I would love my children to grow-up in "my hometown" as their mother I fear that if things don't change I will be forced to take my family elsewhere to make sure that they don't fall behind in the world as well. We as a community need to act and act now , we no longer have the option of leaving things they way they are. I have hope that it's not to late for us and I also believe that if we look hard enough there are more of us that feel this was too. We just need something to bring hope and pride back in to our hearts.

Perhaps we could engage the MCEDC who are working on the fiber-optic loop (fol) to gain information about the possibilities. To date the deal is that the county-wide fol will eventually get to each city and village in the county using existing telephone poles and other transmission equipment to run wire, and then it will be up to businesses and industries to hook up as they would to any other utility, but it is not for individuals, and requires a hard wire link-up as this is designed for high speed transmission of large amounts of data.

I am fairly certain however that if we were to explore this with Tom U'Ren, Astro Systems is more than capable of directing us and providing cost and hardware/link-up information specifics that would allow business, industry, homes, and individuals to become involved in a village/community-wide connection to information that may not need the capacity that the fol is designed for.

As the ambassadors of the Village, our Chamber of Commerce has an awesome responsibility and tremendous opportunity to take our sleepy little town and supercharge it. We do not necessarily have to grow to "city" proportions (5000 residents) but we can improve the quality of life for the 3000 or so that live here and more importantly attract the dollars of those who do not. Why not create an ice cream shop (Ben & Jerry's, or Cold Stone Creamery type) with a baked goods store (Maybe a Paneras) in the now defunct "legends", lets put attractive shops downtown and rid ourselves of the blighted areas, let's attract business into out industrial sector and ask our Board of Public Affairs to be ready and willing to make the improvements needed, or work with developers to make the necessary improvements. We as a chamber have the power in numbers and the ideas behind the possibilities. We are a developer away from real opportunity. We can be recession proof with diversity and given the current state of the village there is no where to go but up. Let's support ourselves and each other by selling Lodi, then buying Lodi. Businesses that come in will buy goods and services from Lodi as long as we can provide them, otherwise, as we have all seen, people will travel 25 minutes for the perception of being able to buy a "better" product only because of more choices, not because anything was actually any better. An example, Lodi doesn't patronize the outlet mall as much as non-Lodians do. Let's all do our part to toot the horn, brag it up and make it happen, we will leave a legacy to our children and their children that we can be proud of. We all want the next generation to be at least if not more successful than we were. That hasn't happened in Lodi for about 1.5 generations, we can change that.

I think that is a great idea. I am excited about the possibilities to make our community "user friendly." I would like to explore the cost for making something like this happen. Perhaps we can dedicate a meeting in the next few months to a discussion about this project?
